Dear friends, Karen passed away tonight after an almost two year struggle with cancer. She fought like hell the whole time, and even while fighting this terrible sickness, she inspired people to make the world a better place. She did this by sharing just the right story with somebody who needed a pick-me-up, or inspiring…

Karen is still going through the process of passing away, but I won’t be speaking about that intensely personal process in the blog. Hospice is watching the both of us to make sure we have the support needed. I’ve been in regular contact with our hospice social worker and pastor, and Karen’s nurse is here…

It’s been a few days since my last blog post. Karen’s health started declining pretty rapidly Sunday. When hospice and I were certain that this was the end I wanted to reach out to family, both near and far, before posting on the blog about it. Thanks for your understanding. The hospice team helped us change Karen’s meds around a little yesterday, and it improved things a little for her. She started a new med for her queasiness, and it’s not making her quite as tired. She’s still taking the morphine regularly for her breathing, but this has reduced the amount of oxy she’s taking….

The weekend is coming up, and Karen wants to spend it with me without any visits or calls, even from hospice. She’s having more trouble breathing and although the morphine helps a lot with that, she’s needing more of it, and more often. The morphine really is helping quite a lot. The bad part is…

Karen’s pain has subsided a bit over the last couple days. She’s only taken oxy a couple times today. She’s still in pain but less than before.
