And The Winner Is…

Posted on August 10, 2017 by Charlie

We chose to move Karen’s treatment to the Cleveland Clinic for an array of reasons. Foremost among those was our belief that they offered the best chance to get Karen into one of the next generation immunotherapy trials. The other centers were not optimistic about their ability to offer this opportunity.

The Cleveland Clinic came through for us, and Karen made it into a clinical trial. This is great for a few reasons. First, immunotherapy is the newest greatest thing. But will this put her in remission? We don’t have nearly enough information to say, but if she tolerates the treatment it would allow her doctor the option to treat with other immunotherapy drugs outside of trials. So, if she tolerates the treatments, a whole new avenue of treatment may open up for her.

More immediately this means that we’ll be spending even more time up in Cleveland, at the main campus. Starting this coming Monday we’ll spend every third week living up in Cleveland. The medication is administered every day for a week, and then she has two weeks without infusions. The first week of the first cycle is next week, and we’re staying at a local hotel, but we’ve applied to stay in Hope Lodge for her treatment weeks moving forward. Fingers crossed!

We’re not sure what to expect from the treatments, so we’ll have to post more information next week.

    Hi Guys –
if you need anything at all while up in Cleveland let me know.
We can help in any way needed.
so happy to hear of the trial and I am hoping a praying that it is well tolerated.
Again – If you need anything – don’t hesitate – we are only about 15 minutes from where you are.
