Friday 9-1 Update

Posted on September 1, 2017 by Charlie

The trial organizers have decided to stop the clinical trial for Karen. We’re not quite sure where that leaves us, but not all options are closed. Some may actually open for her, depending on her CT scan results in a couple weeks.

If the CT scan shows that the cancer has been reduced, she’ll likely be able to continue using the trial medication at a smaller dose, just not as part of the trial. This would be great, if it happens. If the cancer has simply been held in check since the last scan, she also may have the opportunity to stay on the medication. Not only that, but as long as her cancer hasn’t progressed while on the medication it might also open up her doctor’s ability to provide alternate immunotherapy medications off-trial.

If the CT scan shows that the cancer progressed while on the medication, some of those options are eliminated. Unfortunately, it will be more than two weeks until we know.

We’re up in Cleveland at the hospital still, and don’t know for certain when she will be discharged. Presumably later today. We have a room at the lodge for the next few days, so there is no rush to get back home. We’ll see how she feels, and make a decision later. I’m not likely to make any more blog posts for at least a few days, but that doesn’t mean there is anything wrong. We’re just going to unplug for a few days and enjoy the long weekend! Hope you do the same!

You’re both in my thoughts. Will keep fingers crossed until we hear from you in a couple of weeks.
