Mid Week Update 5/9

Posted on May 9, 2018 by Charlie

The morphine has been helping Karen quite a bit with breathing, and I think lowering her overall pain. She’s not taken any oxy for the last day, and earlier she rated her pain at two out of ten.

She ate a little fruit yesterday and this morning. She quite enjoys the watermelon. Her tastes have continued to change over the last few weeks, and she can’t tolerate meat at all right now. In fact, I  can’t eat any smelly meats around her at all (pepperoni, sausage, etc.).

We’re still watching TV, and she likes that, but she falls asleep mid way through longer programs. She’s sleeping about 20 hours a day right now.

Karen is’t up for any visits or phone calls right at this time. She’s decided she wants to have some time for just us, without the pressure of interacting with others. It takes quite a lot of energy even to have a conversation at this point, and she still feels the pressure to be a good host and is not comfortable sharing her vulnerability. That’s just who Karen is, and right now it’s exhausting for her. And phone calls can be even more exhausting than visits, because everything is verbal, and usually requires speaking with emphasis, and the urge to help carry a conversation. That can be mentally exhausting too. She is worried that people won’t understand, and I assured her that everybody would.

I’m grateful and honored that she’s comfortable sharing her vulnerability with me. Thank you for all the comments on the blog and notes in the mail. I continue to read them to Karen daily. <3

I’m glad you two are getting to spend this time together. Always Karen the hostess with the mostest and thinking of others. Continuing to lift you both up daily. Sending love and prayers.
