Tuesday Update 5/15

Posted on May 15, 2018May 15, 2018 by Charlie

It’s been a few days since my last blog post. Karen’s health started declining pretty rapidly Sunday.

When hospice and I were certain that this was the end I wanted to reach out to family, both near and far, before posting on the blog about it. Thanks for your understanding. I’m sorry for the people who had hoped for a FaceTime or phone call. We tried.

On Saturday she got to see some wildflowers and the rest of her new landscaping, when we went on our little adventure. Both made her very happy.

For those who don’t know, about a month or so ago she said she wanted to hang on at least long enough to see the wildflowers. There aren’t many of them yet, but apparently there were enough to bring some of the comfort she needed. She wanted the weekend for just the two of us, probably knowing instinctively it was almost time, and it was a special Saturday for us.

Since making the calls earlier, people have reached out to offer their support, thinking of Karen and me, and it’s very heartwarming, thank you for thinking of us.

I am able to continue giving her the morphine, right to the end, so there is little concern about discomfort or pain.

I’ll update here in the blog shortly after she passes, and then again in a day or two to share information about our plans for her service . I’ll need some time for myself around then, so I may not post anything lengthy, and perhaps I’ll invite a guest blogger to make a couple posts for me.

It would be good to keep your plans flexible for the next week if you can, and please share with people who should know. I wouldn’t want somebody to be left unaware. Thank you for your help with this.

Karen is resting comfortably right now. Thank you for your thoughts and prayers. <3

Winnie the Pooh said it best “How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.”

Please tell Karen that her cousins in Youngstown – John, Marianne, and Annette – are thinking of her and praying for her peace and comfort at this time. We hope she knows that we love her and we will always cherish the many wonderful memories of our lives together. May the angels lead you safely home.
