The last week has been an improvement over the prior couple. Karen has been up and around more, and even felt up to taking herself into town. We’ve had several forays into the big cities over the last week, and that includes Mt. Sterling, Washington Courthouse, Grove City, and even Columbus! It was heartwarming that she felt up to spending time out, even though she was worn out at the end of each trip. Fortunately, each day we returned to the peace and quiet of our home away from the city.
Today was the first treatment in a whole new round of chemo, so it was a stressful day. It wasn’t until the end of the last three week cycle until she felt up to doing the things discussed above, so willingly going back in for the next round of treatment is no small feat. I’m glad we at least know the treatment is reducing the size of the tumors.
Dr. Zangmeister is pleased about the reduction in tumor size, but needs a couple more rounds to make a meaningful assessment of the progress, and how the rest of Karen’s body is handling the treatment. They test before each session to make sure they haven’t compromised her immune system too much.
Karen has a pic she will be sharing in a post here on the blog soon!
All the nurses at the Zangmeister Center are fantastic to Karen, and many know her by name, even if they’ve only treated her once or twice. They all say hello when they see her walking through the center and it’s always with a huge smile. Karen has infected them with her personality.
The next several days are going to be sleepy and particularly icky, but we have our friends Emily and Josh visiting from out of town this weekend, so we are able to look forward to something nice. Maybe we’ll have some pics and stories to tell by the time the weekend is over! Stay tuned for Karen’s post!
