Yesterday marked the fifth anniversary of Karen’s passing. I took the day off and spent some time in the garden and around the yard, and spent time in contemplation.
When Karen’s struggle was at the very end, she wanted to hang on long enough to see her wildflowers bloom one more time. She did, and passed shortly after. Never again have the wildflowers bloomed as early as they did that year. This year is no exception, but some did start blooming just in time for this post.
Karen loved her wildflowers, and she had (and still has) acres of them around our home. I tend the fields, spread new seeds, and fight back the weeds each year. In addition to that, our business sends thousands of packets of wildflowers out with orders throughout the year, each with a short message about Karen. Every time I see a flower, I think of her. There are probably millions of flowers sprouting this spring in her honor, and thousands of people have helped us spread them.
Don’t forget, Karen’s birthday is coming up soon. Please join me at our home around “noonish” on June 17 to celebrate.
Forever in our hearts, Charlie. Appreciate you sharing your thoughts and passing along Karen’s love of life and wildflowers.
