My Memories of Karen on Her Birthday

As usual, I wrote a blog article and then hesitated to post it.

Now, a couple months later, I have to revise my blog post so it makes sense. I’ve deleted dozens of these posts, but wanted to share this one.

As you know, we had a gathering in Karen’s honor. I had a great time, and I think others did as well. I’m afraid that I didn’t take any photographs, but I know that others did, and I’m sure they’ll send me copies. I’ll post some when I get them.

I spoke about Karen with friends and family and they were happy stories, and that felt good. Some of my family members came from out of state to help me celebrate, and I’m not really sure what to say about that. It meant a lot to me.

I have dozens of half-written blog posts that I’d like to publish at some point in the future, but many of them are very personal to me, and I’m not ready to share them.

I did not know Karen most of her life. I can’t speak for who she was before we met, but I did know her well in the last decade or so of her life. In those years she was an inspiration to me, and many others around her.

Karen was considerate of other people, and she valued them. She never felt that she needed to detract from another person so that she could feel good about herself.

The world would be a better place if more people were like her.

  1. So sorry I was unable to attend the gathering in Karen’s honor. What a tribute to Karen to know that so many people share the same memory of her as a thoughtful, loving person as you do. As for her life before you knew her, I can honestly say that the Karen you know is the exact same person Karen was her whole life. I would love to see the pictures sometime.
