Karen is doing a great job adapting to her reduced strength. Before the “event” she was caring for herself most of the time. Sometimes she needed my help getting up from the couch, or taking a shower, but other than that she managed things pretty well. Although she can’t get up and move around by…
Settling In 4-24
I managed to get 8 hours of sleep last night. They weren’t all in a row, but I did get them, and feel a little more awake. I’ll use that opportunity to post an update and also miscellaneous details about her treatment. We’ve had Karen up a couple times today, and have a system for…
Home Sweet Home
Karen and I made it home. The hospital gave her some super drugs to keep her out of pain and to control the queasiness. It all seemed to work well. She was comfortable and we got home quickly. We’re both exhausted, and I’m having trouble keeping my eyes open, so I’ll follow up with a…
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-23
We’re going home tomorrow! We’re sorting out all of the details. The hospital is helping us arrange an ambulance ride home. Unfortunately, it may be out of pocket. Insurance doesn’t cover transportation home from so far away, if there is a closer hospital we could have chosen that offers the same service. I have a…
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-22
Sunday is a day where there isn’t quite as much poking and prodding in the hospital when you’re not in critical condition, and Karen isn’t right now. Her health has leveled out, so tomorrow we’ll discuss what the plan is to go home, and what kind of care she’ll need. I don’t expect to know…
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-21
Like prior days, I’ll be updating this single post today if there are updates. So, if you check this post out now, it may change later in the same day. Scroll to the bottom for newer updates throughout the day. 10:20AM Karen taxed her strength a little last night, so is doing a little extra…
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-20
12:00 Noon Karen had a challenging night. They are giving her meds to reduce ammonia in her blood, and they are counteracting some of the other effects of liver failure. She’s asleep most of the time, but is lucid when awake, because of the meds for the ammonia. So, the meds are good and bad….
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-19
It’s pretty early in the morning, but it’s technically the 19th now. As before, I’ll add to this post throughout the day if I get any news, and Karen doesn’t need me. This is the third post since she was admitted to the hospital. If you haven’t read the others you may need to glance…
Cleveland Clinic Update 4-18
Karen’s stay at the Clinic will be for at least another few days, even if all goes well. For the next few days I’ll be creating a blog post for the day, and will update that blog a couple times a day. That means that blog posts may change through the day. I did this…
Things Seem Stable, but an Important Update
Karen started feeling ill Sunday evening and got worse Monday before we headed out to Chemo. We considered going to a local ER, but Karen felt better about being seen at the Clinic. She is bleeding internally, and the docs aren’t sure exactly where. It is likely from a couple places, but of varying degrees….
