Unfortunately, Karen’s test showed that she was negative for the HLA-A*2 antigen, so does not qualify for the clinical trial. We reached out to the Clinic to see what they have lined up next, and will report back when we have something definitive planned. Karen has been feeling some new pains, and isn’t very energetic….
Mr. Whiskers
With great sadness I have to share that Mr. Whiskers has passed away. Yesterday he was running around being the normal Mr. Whiskers, and played our chasing game with his morning treats without any indication there was anything wrong, but a couple hours later he was crying and throwing up. We ended up at MedVet…
Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center Update 1
Karen and I made it back home last night after about 7 hours on the road, for the second time in two days. The drive was pretty easy for me, but was hard on Karen, particularly when driving on poorly maintained roads. Our Explorer is a safe vehicle that will get us to the destination…
Round 2 Update
Karen is in the second round of Alimpta, and it’s no better than the first round. This time she spent a week in the hospital with pneumonia. No fun at all. Although the hospital saw that she had fluid in her lungs, I don’t know that she needed to spend a week in the hospital….
Pre-Weekend Update
This has been a rough week for Karen. She seems to have gotten over pneumonia, but is still having trouble keeping food down without medication. And the medication makes her sleepy. The choice seems to be awake and sick or slightly less sick and asleep. She has an appointment Monday at the Clinic where she…
What’s Worse than Chemo?
What’s Worse than Chemo? Drum roll…Chemo while you have pneumonia! As you know, Karen’s been struggling with a cough for a couple months now, and that’s now turned into pneumonia. We were having trouble keeping her temperature down Saturday, so on the Clinic’s orders I took her into the ER for a late night visit. Her…
Struggling Through the Week
It’s been a tough week for Karen since her treatment Monday. The chemo sickness is pretty bad but is receding slowly. She’s not out of the woods yet, but the worst is over. I’ll try to post more info this weekend but know people want to keep up on how she is. Unfortunately, she’s not…
Alimta Round 1
It’s been a tiring week for Karen. We did get to do a little sledding, which was nice, but extra tiring for her. It was nice to hear her laugh and see her smile though. Karen starts a new medication called Alimta next week. With her weakened state, we’re a bit concerned about starting a…
Let’s Chat, But Where Do We Start?
Dear friends, Karen and I have quite a lot of information to share, so this will likely be a long post, and contain information that we’re not pleased to share. When compiling my thoughts for this post the list of topics kept getting longer and longer. We have many dear friends who are clearly in…
We Hope to Have More Info Soon
I know that people are hoping for an update, and I’ll have a detailed one this weekend. Unfortunately, the test results came back showing that her cancer has spread further. Karen is having some additional tests today here in Columbus, and then we’re travelling back up to the Clinic tomorrow to speak with the doctor….
