Round 3: An update on how things went at The James. It was a good appointment, not particularly productive, but I’m glad we went. There was a good amount of time spent talking to the care team which I found refreshing. The specialist initially assigned to my case focused on CUP (cancer of unknown primary), however, their pathology department had reviewed the sample taken during the liver biopsy and found it to be ovarian in nature. This agrees with the Cancer ID findings; those results with a 90% probability show it to be ovarian as well. Coupled with the surgeon’s observations, the new working diagnosis is metastatic ovarian cancer. Metastatic meaning that the cancer has spread from its primary source, hence the tumors throughout my peritoneum. A cure will be miraculous, but we can still strive for remission.
The James doctor referred me to a member of their gynecology team. That appointment is on the 22nd. The CUP doctor agreed with my current course of treatment and would be doing the same. There is another genetic test we’ll try to see if there can be a more targeted drug therapy, but as long as I’m responding to the platinum-based chemo, we’ll stay the course. My CA-125 cancer marker was down last week (woohoo!) and after the 4th or 5th round of chemo Dr. Zangmeister will CT scan and see if there is tumor reduction. *fingers crossed*
The weekly dosing is still better overall than the one dose every 3 weeks, though I am battling a lot of fatigue this round. The beautiful Fall weather helps lift my spirits as does the continual outpouring of prayers and encouragement from friends and family. Thank you all for the love and support! ❤
Tomorrow is the second dose in round 3. I’m feeling more awake today with only a little nausea. My hair is fighting to regrow with peach-fuzziness sprouting. No muscle aches or debilitating pain. . . Player 1 – ready!!
