A Week of Changes

There have been a ton of changes over the last couple weeks, and each day it seems like the best time for an update would be the next day, and it continues that way…

First, let us thank Christy, Bill, and Caroline for riding in Pelotonia for Karen. Wow! They rode their bicycles anywhere between 25 and 180 miles! We hoped to be at the finish line for each person, but the morning got a slow start, and we missed all three finishes. We had homemade signs and all, but only managed to get up to see Caroline who had the latest finish (because she was on the 180 mile path, not because she was slow!)

This update is going to be brief because we’re getting back on the road today in a short while. This is our fourth trip up in the last week. Unfortunately, the chemo has not been working, and the cancer is growing and spreading. Karen’s been feeling especially drained of late, and the CT scan last week showed why. Fortunately, we’re at the Cleveland Clinic for this very reason. They think they have Karen placed in an immunotherapy trial. Nobody else had a hope of getting her into one of those trials, because most exclude her, since she has an autoimmune disease.

The trial opportunity is a huge one! The only downside is that we’d have to stay up in Cleveland for one week out of every three for at least a year if she responds well to the therapy. Small price to pay! I hope to have more info soon!
