Things Seem Stable, but an Important Update

Karen started feeling ill Sunday evening and got worse Monday before we headed out to Chemo. We considered going to a local ER, but Karen felt better about being seen at the Clinic.

She is bleeding internally, and the docs aren’t sure exactly where. It is likely from a couple places, but of varying degrees. They’ve given her around six units of blood over the last 24 hours, and finally have her hemoglobin levels back up to a tolerable level.

Karen was extremely fatigued upon arrival, and as her hemoglobin levels decreased she slipped into a period where she wasn’t lucid, but when awake she is doing better now. She’s still sleeping most of the time.

The docs think they can stabilize her and are working toward that end. Without getting into the details, they have more testing they plan to do, but are planning the tests with the hope that she’s able to proceed with them. They have been able to raise her hemoglobin levels, but if they drop rapidly they plan to transfer her to the ICU department.

Karen tells me that she’s not done fighting yet.
